The Ballad of the de Guzman Family Tree

Once upon a time in the town of Gapan
There lived a very famous and fortunate man.
Don Alejandro, that was his name
He is the seed from which we call came.
Don Alejandro was the richest man in the town
He owned touring cars and stallions and farmland all around.
Yet with all this wealth, he only had one daughter
Consolation, that was what he called her.
He wished her to be wed to rich young man
But his daughter was in love and she had a different plan.
Her true love was Lorenzo, her dad though him inept
But they wished to marry and love was put to the test.
This is the tale of that enduring love
An ode to devotion rising up above
All of life's challenges, big and small
And the lovers' blood flows on in us all.
Lorenzo and his lover passed secret notes
They were forbidden to meet and so decided to elope.
In the dark of night, Consolation broke free
She claimed out her window after pretending to fall asleep.
When Don Alejandro learned that they had wed
He went into a rage and gambled everything he had.
Gone were the touring cars, stallions and farms
As was anything that could end up in Lorenzo's arms.
But all he wanted in his arms was Consolacion
They had eleven children and one happy home.
One baby died, but eight boys and two girls
Went on to overcome life's many hurdles.
This is the tale of that enduring love
An ode to devotion rising up above
All of life's challenges, big and small
And the lovers' blood flows on in us all.
All ten of these children got college degrees
They became very successful and continued the family.
The products of hard work and love are all gathered here with me;
We're all the fruits that blossomed from the de Guzman family tree.

These photos were taken at Galicano and Cleotilde’s house on Luzon Street in Marikina. This house was amazing! We used to slide down that banister and get yelled at LOL! And sleep overs with Lola were the best. (Catherine)
